THE THIRTY 2ND GRILLE,

32 Main Street, Hopkinton, 377-2929.

Resolutely traditional, The Thirty 2nd Grille is a pristine palace that mother would approve of, with mauve and green decor and the large bar discretely partioned away. Executive chef Peter Devine, Jr., formerly of Providence's famed Capital Grille, brings many of their high standards to this kitchen. Not overly thickened, the New England clam chowder ($1.75/$2.25) offers plenty of clams and a hint of pork. Main courses, while limited, feature prime classics, such as batter-fried seafood, grilled swordfish ($13.95), and marinated pork chops ($12.95). The syrup sweetness of the maple marinated Black Angus ($13.95) is robust enough for the steak and adds just a hint of flavor.
