ADVERTISING SALES REPRESENTATIVES
You spend a third of your life at your job.  Make it count.

As a sales rep for the Boston Phoenix, you get to

  • Dine at some of the best restaurants in town…and it’s your job.
  • Go to concerts and entertain clients … and it’s your job.
  • Hang out at happening bars and clubs … and it’s your job.
  • Talk to clients about the ways to attract the most people possible to their events … and it’s your job.
  • Be up-to-date on all the fun events in Boston… and it’s your job.
  • Make a whole bunch of money … and it’s your job.

The Phoenix is the arts and entertainment authority for New England and you can be in the middle of it all.  As an advertising sales rep, you are the key conduit for all those businesses that want to connect with the audience that reads the Phoenix.  You show them ways to be more profitable and you profit in return.

What does the job entail?
To put it simply, you go out to businesses and you sell them advertising – print ads, online ads, email campaigns, promotional campaigns…whatever we can come up with that will help the client be more profitable.  You manage the entire life cycle of the ad – work with art to create ads, with our other media outlets to create campaigns, with marketing to develop cross promotions, with traffic to schedule ads and plenty of others in getting the message out.

You will be out of the office plenty – probably half your time – following up with clients, pitching ad proposals to prospects, attending promotional events, making sales.  Most of your business will be inside 128 and probably closer to the center of Boston.

What are the skills I need to be successful?
You have to be able to keep lots of balls in the air at one time and not drop any.

You have to be willing to make appointments with prospects and be persistent in convincing them to buy from us.

You have to be able to walk up to a prospect in a crowded room and make conversation without any introduction.

You have to be able to handle tight deadlines and sell to meet your weekly objectives.

You have to be able to close deals and to upsell.
